Mother and son among three hacked to death in Manikganj

Mother and son among three have been hacked to death in two separate incidents at Doulatpur and Sadar upazilas in Manikganj district.

The murder incidents happened after Saturday (May 30) midnight.

The murder victims were Amina Begum, wife of cloth trader Abdus Salam of Bachamara Char area under Doulatpur upazila, and her one and a half year old son Aslam; and Md Sajib, 28, son of Monser Ali of village Putail under Sadar upazila.

Police and local sources said cloth trader Abdus Salam returned home at about 9:30pm on Saturday (May 30) after closing his shop. When he just reached home, his younger brother Yusuf Ali seriously injured him by hacking him repeatedly with a sharp weapon.

Critically injured Salam was rushed to Doulatpur Upazila Health Complex where he was admitted later on.

There are allegations that Yusuf had allegedly hacked Salam's wife Amina Begum and their one and a half month old baby boy Aslam to death before Salam reached home.

Doulatpur Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Swapan Kumar Sarkar said the bodies of mother and son were sent to morgue for postmortem after recovering at night. A blood-stained dao and a hammer were seized from the place of occurence. Following the murder, accused Yusuf Ali fled away. Police have been conducting drives to arrest the accused Yusuf.

On the other hand, a youth, named Sajib, came under attack at his own home at Krishnanagar under Sadar upazila in Manikganj district on the same night. Miscreants fled away hacking him indiscriminately after entering his house. Police suspected that the murder might have happened due to previous enmity.

Manikganj Sadar Police Station's sub-inspector (SI) Md Shajahan said Sajib's dead body was sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy. Police are working to identify the killers involved in the brutal murder and arrest them as quickly as possible.
