A senior leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has said that another August 5 might happen because of Islami Bank, said Muhammad Salim Uddin, Dhaka City North Ameer of Jamaat-e-Bangladesh.
The Jamaat leader made the remarks on Friday (June 5) while speaking at a tree plantation event at T&T Ground, Mohakhali in the capital.
Salim Uddin said, "People of Bangladesh are soft, cool, and patient like cement. But if they roar, they can cause an August 5. Another August 5 can happen centering the Islami Bank only. Customers will sacrifice their livesbut they will not give the bank to looters."
He also said, "Get ready to see what a movement is. You will see its many types. Only Islami Bank customers can show you this. Leave this dangerous path while there is time."
He said, "Islami Bank was not established through anyone's personal money, or government fund. It runs on public money and some foreign companies also invested in it."
Urging the Prime Minister, he said, "It is your duty to keep a good political environment in Bangladesh. The people around you who flatter you do not understand the political climate."
Selim Uddin said, "You have many MPs. But I never see them talk about measles. They only give new manifestos. They just travel around making speeches. They do not do good work in real life."
Referring to former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad, he said, "Ershad could not tolerate an Islamic university in Gazipur. This was in the heart of Dhaka. He moved it to Jhenaidah-Kushtia. Shortly after this, he fell from power. Whatever you do, do not touch Islam. Do not play games with Islam."
He said, "You called strikes against the Awami League. Then you visited their homes to drink tea. You managed the police. You held quick protest marches. Jamaat will not protest like this. Leave this dangerous path now. Come back to the right path. Otherwise, another August 5 could happen."
Regarding Jamaat, he said, "Jamaat's sure victory was snatched away through many conspiracies.
Addressing the BNP leaders, he said, "You become jealous of Jamaat. You cannot stand the work we did today. Extend cooperation to Jamaat. Jamaat will change the face of the country in five years if its gets responsibility to run the country."
Chaired by Dhaka City North Youth and Sports president Yasin Arafat, the programme was moderated by secretary Dr. Mostofa Faisal Parvez.
It was attended by Jamaat Central Majlish-e-Sura member Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, Dhaka North assistant secretary publicity secretary Ataur Rahman Sarkar, Youth Department's vice president Dr. Moinuddin and Banani Thana Ameer Mizanur Rahman Khan, among others.
