Shapla Chattar Killing Case: Dipu, Rupa among 9 accused at ICT
Former minister Dr. Dipu Moni and eight other accused were produced before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) on Sunday morning in connection with a crimes against humanity case.

Former minister Dr. Dipu Moni and eight other accused have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) in connection with a crimes against humanity case.

The case stems from the killings and atrocities committed during the Hefazat-e-Islam mass rally at Shapla Square in Motijheel on May 5, 2013.

They were brought to the tribunal from jail this morning, (Sunday, June 7, 2026). The three-member Tribunal-1 bench, led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mozumder, had set today for the submission of the investigation report.

The nine accused produced in court Sunday are Dr. Dipu Moni (former Foreign Minister), Shamsul Hoque Tuku (former State Minister for Home Affairs), Maj Gen (Retd) Ziaul Ahsan (former NTMC Director General), AKM Shahidul Huque (former IGP of Police), Molla Nazrul Islam (former DIG of Police), Shahriar Kabir (President of the Advisory Council of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee), Abdul Jalil Mondal (former DIG of Police), Mozammel Babu (former Managing Director of Ekattor TV) and Farzana Rupa (journalist).

There are allegations that serving as foreign minister at the time, Dipu Moni tried to cover up the real incident and mislead the international community by claiming that law enforcement had merely "eliminated a group of unruly people."

On the other hand, the investigation agency found initial evidence that the two accused journalists broadcasted the mass rally provocatively on Ekattor TV and later played a role in suppressing the real facts regarding the deaths and massacres.
