Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury reached the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday (June 11) to place the national budget for the FY2026–27.

A special cabinet meeting on the budget was scheduled to be held at 10:00am ahead of its presentation in Parliament later in the day.

Speaking after arriving at the Jatiya Sangsad complex, the finance minister said the government had prepared the budget with the aim of providing relief and economic support to all citizens despite limited resources.

"This year's national budget will be the main foundation-stone of establishing a welfare state. This budget has been formulated with the goal of ensuring comfort for people across the country within the constraints of available resources," he said.

Earlier, while on his way to attend the budget session, Amir Khasru told journalists that the government's fiscal proposals had been designed with a strong focus on the country’s overall development and improving people's quality of life.

He noted that this year's budget carries added significance as it will be presented under an elected government after a prolonged period, raising public expectations.

"The context of this budget is somewhat different. After a long time, a national budget is being presented by an elected government. Naturally, the aspirations and expectations of the nation are much higher," he said.

The FY2026–27 budget is expected to outline the government's economic strategy and development agenda for the coming fiscal year.
