Four people have been killed and 10 others injured after a local passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Sarail in Brahmanbaria.
The accident happened at about 12 noon on Monday (June 8) at Boishamara area in Shahbazpur union under Sarail upazila on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. However, the identities of the deceased and injured could not be known immediately.
Highway police and local sources said the driver lost control when the local bus with passengers on board was passing through Boishamara area of the highway. Instantly the bus turned turtled being fell in a roadside deep ditch, leaving four passengers dead on the spot.
Receiving information, Highway Police and Fire Service personnel went to the spot and launched rescue operation with the help of locals.
Confirming about the accident, Khatihata Highway Police Station's Second Officer Md Abdul Baten said the deaths and injuries were caused as the bus plunged into the ditch. Eight seriously injured passengers were rescued from the spot. They were sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. Later, police learnt that four were killed. Movement of vehicles on the highway remains normal.
