State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam today sought Türkiye's support in implementing educational programmes for homeless street children and strengthening climate resilience in vulnerable regions.

She made the appeal during a meeting with a high-level delegation of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) at the foreign ministry here, according to a ministry’s press release.

The delegation was led by TIKA Vice President Dr Ali Ercan, who arrived in Bangladesh on June 7 on a four-day official visit.

During the meeting, the state minister sought TIKA's specialized cooperation in advancing educational initiatives for homeless street children and supporting sustainable climate resilience efforts in areas most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

TIKA has been implementing a range of socioeconomic and humanitarian projects in Bangladesh since 2014, contributing to development efforts in several key sectors.

Acknowledging Bangladesh's vulnerability to climate change, Dr Ercan recommended Bangladesh’s high-level participation in the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP), which will be hosted by Türkiye in November next.

He reaffirmed TIKA's continued commitment to supporting Bangladesh's national development priorities, particularly in education, disaster management and capacity-building initiatives.

The two sides also discussed avenues for expanding bilateral development cooperation and strengthening institutional partnerships between Bangladesh and Türkiye.

Both sides expressed optimism that the visit would further deepen the longstanding friendship between the two countries and pave the way for focused collaboration in areas of mutual interest in the future.
