A complaint has been submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) seeking an investigation against the outgoing president Mohammed Sahabuddin for crimes against humanity during the July mass uprising. 

The complaint was submitted on Sunday (July 26) on behalf of the Bangladesh Azad Party.

The Chief Prosecution Wing of the ICT  received the complaint and would decide on the next legal steps and initial investigation.

The complainant party alleges that during the 2024 mass uprising, former president Mohammed Sahabuddin took the side of fascism and remained silent during the genocide and crimes against humanity committed against students and the public.

Just two days before the complaint was filed, Mohammed Sahabuddin resigned from the post of president on Friday (July 24), citing physical illness. Various political parties and organisations have been demanding his trial since his resignation.

According to political analysts and leaders of various parties, stepping down from the presidency ends Mohammed Sahabuddin's constitutional and legal immunity. As a result, there is no barrier to taking legal action against him.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
