An individual has been arrested from Shalikha upazila in Magura district for his alleged involvement in the killing of Jubo Dal activist Yusuf Ali Parvez at Mirpur Section 13 area under Kafrul Police Station in the capital.
According to sources, Ziarul Huque Molla alias Zia was arrested from Shalikha upazila in Magura district. He is the son of Anwar Patwary from Shatkhali village under Shalikha upazila. He is suspected to be one of the contract shooters hired from outside Dhaka to carry out the attack.
Police said Raju hails from Shatkhali village in Shalikha and is suspected to be one of the contract shooters hired from outside Dhaka to carry out the attack.
Police reported that a group of armed miscreants launched an attack while Yusuf Ali Parvez was chatting at a tea stall next to the residence of Hafizul Islam Babu, member secretary of the Kafrul Thana Jubo Dal. Parvez was killed on the spot due to indiscriminate firing. Four individuals participated in the attack. Local residents chased and detained one person-- Chanchal, and handed him over to the police.
Being the plaintiff, the victim's elder brother Masud Rana filed a murder case at Kafrul Police Station. In his complaint, he mentioned that his brother was not the primary target of the attack. He became a victim of the assault simply because he was associated with Hafizul Islam Babu.
According to the police's primary investigation, it is suspected that the murder may have been committed due to internal conflicts within the BNP and its affiliate organisations. Based on the information provided by the detained Chanchal, it was learned that four individuals had been hired from the Magura-Jhenaidah region to participate in the attack. Following that lead, Ziaur Rahman Raju was arrested from Shatakhali village in Shalikha on Saturday night.
Regarding this matter, Moniruzzaman Chocolate, a member of the District BNP Convening Committee and former Member Secretary of Shalikha Upazila BNP, said that he met Raju in prison during the anti-government movement in 2014. He is known as a terrorist in the area. "I have no political or personal relationship with him. He is not in any committee of BNP either. Confusion is being created over a photo taken with me at an event," he said.
Shalikha Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Ashikur Rahman confirmed the arrest of Raju, saying that a team from the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested him in connection with a case filed at Kafrul Police Station. However, they do not have detailed information regarding the investigation of the case.
