Have you ever thought about using rice water for hair? Rice water has a powerful composition including vitamins B and C, and trace elements of potassium, iodine, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and manganese. Plus, it’s full of fiber that apparently is great for repairing damaged cells, which can give your mane a healthy, nourishing glow.
Rice water is one of the simplest and most affordable beauty tips. It will help restoring your hair's strength and condition. For centuries, south-east Asian women have washed their hair with rice water. Rice water contains amino acids that aid in hair regeneration and promote faster hair growth. Rinse your hair at least twice a week.
How to make
You’ll need:
- 1/2 cup uncooked rice
- 2 cups water
Directions: Start by rinsing the rice under running water to remove any dirt or impurities that might be clinging to it.
Next, place the rinsed rice in a bowl and cover it with a couple of cups of water. Swirl the rice around a bit, then let it soak for 15 to 30 minutes. Strain the rice away from the rice water and set aside. Pour the rice water into an airtight container for storage. It will keep in your fridge for one week.

To Ferment, or not
Some people believe that fermented rice water has even more beneficial effects than the non-fermented stuff. Just leave your finished rice water out on your counter for 24-48 hours. Once it starts to smell slightly sour, bottle it up and store it in your fridge. You can use fermented rice water in the same ways you can use regular rice water.
How it works
To apply rice water to your hair, start with your typical shampoo and deep conditioner process first. Once your hair is clean and rinsed of all products, apply your rice water treatment. Spray or pour the rice water home remedy onto your hair and gently distribute using a comb or your fingers. Be sure to massage it all the way into the scalp. Allow the rice water to sit for up to 20 minutes. Using warm water, thoroughly wash the rice water from the hair until it’s removed completely.
