Accused held over sexual abuse, instigating child to commit suicide at Banasree
Accused Shihab Hossain arrested by Rampura police from Khakchhara village under Bera upazila in Pabna district on Tuesday night in connection with Madrasa rape of a 10-year-old boy and his suicide at Banasree in the capital.

Police arrested madrasa student Shihab Hossain, 19, from Khakchhara village under Bera upazila in Pabna district on Tuesday night in connection with sexual abuse and instigating a child to commit suicide at Banasree in Rampura in the capital. 

The hanging body of Md Abdullah, 10, a student of  Alokito Quran International Hifz Madrasa at Block-C, Banasree under Rampura Police Station, was recovered by police at about 10:00pm on May 19 last. There was a gamcha wrapped around the neck of the boy.

Later, the investigation officer found evidence of unusual sexual abuse at the anal path of the boy in the first information report.

At one stage of questioning, the madrasa authorities said there were allegations against their student Shihab Hossain of committing unusual sexual activities with four madrasa students earlier. Then the madrasa authorities filed a case against him. The Rampura police filed the case under Section 9(1) of Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act 2000 (Amendment 2003).

Police further said Shihab left for his village home before committing suicide by Abdullah. Then a team of Rampura Police Station arrested him at about 8:00pm on Tuesday conducting raid at Khakchhara village under Bera upazila in Pabna district.

Meanwhile, being the plaintiff, Abdullah's mother Tuku Ara Khatun filed another case against Shihab Hossain and several other unidentified persons over enticing her son to commit suicide. Charges were brought under the Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act and Section 306 of the Bangladesh Penal Code.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
