Police have arrested Dr Ismail Al Rajib, 45, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Raipura Upazila Health Complex, along with 50 Yaba pills at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi district.
He was detained during a raid conducted on on tip-off at Tulatuli Mor area of the upazila at around 8:30pm on On Friday (July 24).
It is learnt that Dr Ismail Al Rajib joined the Raipura Upazila Health Complex as a Medical Officer some three years ago. He was appointed as the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the health complex nine months ago.
Contacted, Dr Jannatul Naim, Health and Family Planning Officer of Raipura Upazila Health Complex, said the hospital's Residential Medical Officer, Dr. Ismail Al Rajib, has been detained with Yaba pills. The truth of the allegation will be known through the police investigation. If the allegation is proven, necessary action will definitely be taken against him.
If a doctor is involved with drugs, he cannot provide medical treatment. He is not only a criminal under the law, but he also violates medical rules and ethics, he said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipura Police Station Md. Mojibur Rahman said a police team conducted a drive based on a secret tip-off and detained Dr. Ismail Al Rajib. Later, 50 Yaba pills were recovered after searching his body. Currently, he is in police custody. Legal proceedings regarding this incident are ongoing.
