At least eight people died in Mexico on Monday after heavy rain turned a mountain stream into a torrent of muddy floodwater that swept away villagers.
According to reports, some victims' bodies were discovered many miles downstream from where they vanished, close to Autlan in the western state of Jalisco.
The Jalisco civil protection service released a statement Monday evening saying that "eight people have been reported dead so far, and search efforts are ongoing to locate two more people."
Dozens of rescue workers were working in the area to search for the missing.
