Police have seized 7,500 Yaba tablets abandoned inside a luxury sleeper bus at Bhatulia under Turag Police Station in the capital.

The estimated market value of the seized yaba tablets is Tk 22.5 lakh.

The 'Doel Express Sleeper Bus' depot located at Bhatulia area under Turag Police Station.

Suspicious objects were noticed inside the long-distance luxury bus while it was undergoing maintenance at the depot.

Following a search, police recovered the Yaba consignment which were hidden within the bus' interior structure. Police said an investigation is underway to identify the individuals involved in this trafficking attempt. 

A case was filed with Turag Police Station, and further legal actions are ongoing.

Turag Police Station officer-in charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman said drug dealers were taking various unique strategies to evade the eyes of law enforcing agencies. This time, they were trying to smuggle the banned yaba pills hiding inside the AC ventilators of long distant luxury sleeper buses.

"Receiving information, we have been succeeded to seized this huge quantity of yaba pills conducting a quick raid. Our zero tolerance attitudes and special drives against the drugs will continue. Our investigation is going on to identify the masterminds behind this gang of smugglers.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
