The law enforcers have detained around 35 people from over a dozen buildings housing restaurants in the capital for allegedly not complying with fire safety regulations and the Bangladesh National Building Code today (3 March).
Dhaka Metropolitan Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Khandkar Mahid said that this operation was conducted in different areas of the capital including Dhanmondi, Gulshan, Mirpur, Uttara.
He said raids are being conducted in restaurants that are operating without following proper rules and regulations. Actions will be taken as per the existing laws of the country, he added.
According to police sources, 30-35 people have already been arrested. Most of those arrestees are restaurant managers. They have been asked to submit documents needed to run their businesses.
