Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital tonight around 8 pm for health checkups.

Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, her personal physician as well as a member of her medical team, told reporters that the decision was taken on the recommendation of the medical board formed for her treatment.

"Madam has been admitted to Evercare Hospital for several tests as advised by the board. She is now in a cabin. The board will review the test reports before taking further decisions," he said.

Khaleda Zia was last admitted to the hospital on October 15 for routine health examinations and was discharged the following day after completing necessary tests.

The 79-year-old former Prime Minister has been suffering from health complications, including arthritis, diabetes, kidney ailments, lung conditions and eye problems.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
