A court in Dhaka has given 10 years' rigorous imprisonment to Inqilab Mancha Convener Sharif Osman Hadi murder's prime accused Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul alias Daud in an arms case.
Dhaka's Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Mahmudul Mohsin pronounced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier on Sunday last, the court fixed Thursday (April 9) to deliver the judgement on conclusion of presenting arguments in the case. Arrest warrant was issued as Faisal Karim has been absconding.
The case statement reveals that RAB-2 conducted a drive at a flat at Baitul Aman Housing Society at Adabar in the capital on November 7, 2024. Faisal Karim was caught when he tried to escape. After conducting search in his house, police recovered a foreign pistol and four rounds of bullet.
On the following day, RAB's Havilder Mashiur Rahman filed a case under Arms Act against Faisal Karim with Adabar Police Station in the capital.
It was alleged in the case that Faisal Karim was an identified terrorist, extortionist and drug peddlers in the area for a long time. He has been leading organised extortion, murders and killings and drug selling in his area for a long time. He possessed illegal arms to commit crimes.
After investigation, Adabar Police Station's sub-inspector Zahid Hasan submitted chargesheet the court on March 28 last year. During the trial, the court recorded the depositions of 13, out of 14 witnesses.
Faisal Karim had been on bail in the case till November 17 last year. Since the murder of Osman Hadi, he was not seen in broad-laylight anymore. Amid this, he was arrested in India in March.
