The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is planning to establish four new police stations in different parts of the capital to strengthen policing and improve public services.

A proposal has already been sent to the ministry for approval, while the process to establish three more police stations is also underway, said DMP Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar on Friday.

He disclosed the information while speaking to reporters after inaugurating the Khilkhet Police Outpost at Police Officers Housing Society-1 in the city’s 300 Feet area.

Sarwar said accommodation facilities for nearly 8,000 police personnel have been arranged in recent months through the Police Headquarters.

Around 1,600 police members will stay at Nilkhet Police Outpost and another 1,600 personnel at Demra Police Lines, he said.

He also said a 20-storey barrack at Mirpur Police Lines was inaugurated last month, where around 2,200 personnel can be accommodated up to the sixth floor.

According to him, another 20-storey building at Purbachal under Police Headquarters will house around 800 to 900 members of the Diplomatic Security Division and Traffic North Division.

The acting commissioner said the DMP is also expanding facilities at Diabari Police Lines on 10 acres of land, where traffic police, police station personnel and outpost police members will be shifted soon.

He said the Basila Police Lines has also been expanded in recent months. Around 250 personnel of the Traffic Tejgaon Division are currently operating there.

The DMP’s Motor Transport Organisation (MTO) workshop, now located at the Rajarbagh Police Lines, is being shifted to Basila, he added.

Around 150 to 200 police mechanics, along with the deputy commissioner of the MTO workshop, will work there, he said.

Sarwar also said the DMP’s motor driving training school, inaugurated at Basila last year, is now operational.

Replying to another question, he said the DMP plans to strengthen the Rayerbazar Police Outpost and establish a full-fledged police station there. The proposal is currently awaiting ministry approval.

“We are also trying to establish another police station by reorganising parts of Mohammadpur, Adabor and Hazaribagh,” he said.

He further said a new police station named Bashundhara Police Station will be established by reorganising parts of Bhatara, Badda and Khilkhet areas.

Sarwar also mentioned a proposal for another new police station in Khilgaon.

Referring to Purbachal, he said the area is likely to come under the jurisdiction of Dhaka North City Corporation, though the DMP has not yet received an official order.

“Once we receive the order, we will begin policing activities there,” he said.

The DMP has already proposed establishing four police stations and six police outposts in Purbachal, along with a traffic division, MTO workshop and police lines requiring around 6,000 personnel, he added.

Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir inaugurated the new Khilkhet Police Outpost as the chief guest at the event.
