Three people, including child, found dead in Madaripur

The bodies of husband, wife and their eight-month-old child have been recovered from the rented house of their relative at Amirabad in Madaripur town. The incident happened late Sunday night.

The deceased were Chinmoy Das of Kalagachia area under Sadar upazila, his wife Isha Das, and their eight-month-old child.

According to police and local sources, Misti Baroi, wife of Italy-based expatriate Jatin Baroi from village Satpar under Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj district, has been living as a tenant at the rented house over the last three years. The house is owned by Santona Rani Chanda, wife of late Birendranath Dutta, at Amirabad.

On Sunday afternoon, Chinmoy Das arrived at the house with his wife and infant, introducing himself as Misti Baroi's cousin. 

After receiving information, police went to the house late at night and broke open the room and recovered the bodies. 

Police said Chinmoy Das and his son were found hanging with the ceiling fan inside the room while Isha Das' body was lying on the bed.

Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said Misti Baroi was alone in an adjacent room at the time of the incident, and police responded after receiving a call from her.

He said police are investigating whether the deaths were the result of murder or suicide. However, Misti Baroi has initially been placed under suspicion.

Madaripur RAB-8 Camp Commander Md Moniruzzaman said they visited the spot and collected various evidence. "The incident can't be termed either murder or suicide right now. We have started investigation. It'll be possibe to unearth the mystery behind the incident after investigation," he said.

The bodies were later sent to the morgue of Madaripur 250-bed District Sadar Hospital for autopsies. 

The incident has created widespread sensation in the area.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
