A court has sentenced four accused to death by hanging in army officer Lieutenant Tanjim Sarwar Nirjan murder at Chakaria in Cox's Bazar.
At the same time, nine more accused were given life-term jail.
On Wednesday (May 20) afternoon, Cox's Bazar's Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Abul Mansur Siddiqui pronounced the verdict.
The case statement states that law enforcing agencies learnt about the preparation of committing a robbery at fish trader Rezaul Karim's house at Purbo Maizpara area under Chakaria upazila on September 23 last year. Then army and police led by Lieutenant Nirjon launched a joint operation at about 3:30am to nab the robbers.
During the operation, a robber was arrested but his associated trried to take away forcibly. At one stage, they swooped on Lt Nirjon with sharp weapons and he was gravely injured. Then he was rushed to a local hospital where dotors declared him dead.
Later, being the plaintiff, the Bangladesh Army filed a case with Chakaria Police Station.
