At least five people have been killed and 25 others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a motorcycle in the Bedgram under Sadar upazila in Gopalganj district.
The accident happened early Thursday (May 28) afternoon when a passenger bus belonging to Dola Paribahan collided head-on with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately. Authorities said the injured were admitted to different hospitals for treatment.
According to reports, two of the deceased were motorcyclists and three were bus passengers.
Superintendent of Police Md Habibullah and Gopalganj Fire Service Inspector Niamul Huda confirmed the incident to the media.
Eyewitnesses and police sources said a passenger bus and a motorcycle coming from opposite directions collided with great impact at Bedgram. Five people died on the spot and at the hospital after being rescued.
Local administration and Fire Service personnel quickly reached the spot and transported the injured to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital.
Doctors said several injured victims are in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll may increase.
The Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident and said efforts are underway to identify the deceased. The damaged vehicles have been removed, and traffic movement on the road has returned to normal.
