None can stop election, people have awakened: Mirza Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir gets emotional receiving Thakurgaon's martyr Shaheed Mamun's sister's clay bank while speaking at a roadside meeting at Kazipara under Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon-1 constituency on Sunday

Making allegation that there are some people who always try to foil elections, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir hassaid none would be able to stop the upcoming election as people across the country have awakened and are determined to exercise their voting rights.

He was speaking at a roadside meeting at Kazipara in Mohammadpur union under Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon-1 constituency on Sunday (February 1) morning.

Addressing the party leaders, activists and local inhabitants, he urged voters to safeguard polling centres on election day so that none could create unrest. "Please be very careful so that Hindus and Muslims can vote peacefully and without fear. Be vigilant so that no one dares to engage in mischief," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul also called on supporters to stand on to the fields on February 12 carrying banners bearing the sheaf of paddy, the symbol of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia.

Thakurgaon's martyr Shaheed Mamun's sister handed over a clay-made savings bank containing her savings, along with a few eggs from hens she had raised herself to Mirza Fakhrul.

The gesture visibly moved the BNP secretary general. He struggled to hold back tears, becoming emotional in front of the crowd, an incident that deeply touched those present.
