Nahid Islam, Chief Whip of the Opposition and Convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has demanded the opening of the ‘July Memorial Museum’ by August 5 of this year.
Setting a deadline that coincides with the anniversary of the fall of the Sheikh Hasina administration, the mass movement leader said on Wednesday that the museum must be opened to the public by Aug 5, warning that people will otherwise open the gates themselves.
He made this demand after paying tribute and offering prayers at the graves of those killed in the July uprising in Rayerbazar, marking its second anniversary.
Stating that the investigation and trial regarding the July killings are proceeding at a slow pace, Nahid Islam demanded that the process be expedited.
He said the killers of Osman Hadi must be brought back to the country. Sheikh Hasina must be brought back, and the death sentence against her must be executed.
Referring to Tuesday's verdict against Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSaD) President Hasanul Haq Inu in a crimes against humanity case, Nahid Islam said the ruling had failed to satisfy the public.
He urged the ruling authorities to prove their commitment to the uprising by implementing structural reforms, fulfilling the July National Charter, and implementing the mandate of the recent referendum for a “discrimination-free Bangladesh”.
