The bodies of five Bangladeshi expatriates who tragically died in a horrific road accident in Qatar arrived at Sylhet MAG Osmani International Airport at 7:15am on Tuesday (June 30), on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.
The arrival of the five young men in coffins had cast a deep shroud of mourning across the entire Kanaighat upazila.
The victims lost their lives in the road accident on June 21 while commuting to their workplace in Qatar's Al-Shahaniya area. All five individuals were inhabitants of Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet district.
Relatives, social and political leaders, and local MP Mufti Maulana Abul Hasan from Sylhet-5 constituency were present at the airport during the handover of the coffins.
He said that necessary cooperation would be ensured by coordinating with the government and all concerned to stand by the affected families.
After airport formalities, the bodies were sent to their respective village homes by ambulances, where preparations were made for their burial at family graveyards.
The Wage Earners' Welfare Board has announced that the family of each deceased individual will initially receive a financial assistance of Tk 35,000. Besides, a further grant of Tk 3 lakh will be provided to each family later on.
