Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a suspected killer in connection with the murder of an expatriate's wife entering her house at Dakkhin Talbaria in Amzadhat union under Fulgazi upazila in Feni district.
RAB-7 Camp Commander Mizanur Rahman disclosed it at a press conference at the Feni RAB office on Monday (June 29) morning.
The arrested suspect is Arifur Rahman, son of Md Rasul Mia of that area. He is a CNG driver by profession. 'Killer' Arif is a distant nephew of the exptriate's wife who was brutally killed inside her house.
Slain Kulsuma Akter Kajol, 30, was the wife of Kuwait expatriate Nurul Amin of village Dakkhin Talbaria in Amzadhat union under Fulgazi upazila in Feni district.
Mizanur Rahman said at the press conference that there was no case against accused Arif from earlier. He is a CNG-driver by profession but worked as drug vendor some times. He took a loan from a local NGO where he had to repay the loan instalment of Tk 15,000 each month.
The RAB official said Arif went to the house of his Kuwait expatriate distant maternal uncle for committing dacoity. As he entered the house cutting the tin of the roof, his aunt Kulsuma Akter Kajol understood it. At one point during a scuffle between the two, Kajol was murdered using a sharp weapon. Later, when people came out to offer Fajr prayer, they heard the groaning sounds of Kajal and entered the house, prompting Arif to flee through the back door of the house.
The RAB official said that following the sensational murder of the expatriate's wife, multiple teams from law enforcement agencies, including RAB, launched a shadow investigation. Several suspects were detained and interrogated from 11:00pm on Sunday to 7:00am on Monday. Among the suspects, Arif drew suspicion due to scratches visible under his nose and on his hands. Under intense interrogation, he eventually confessed to his involvement in the murder.
Mizanur Rahman said Arif would be handed over to Fulgazi police after more questioning.
Earlier on June 27 (Saturday) morning, the body of Kulsuma Akter Kajol was recovered from her house at village Dakkhin Talbaria in Amzadhat union under Fulgazi upazila in Feni district.
