Renowned artist and cultural personality Mustafa Monwar, who passed away on Monday morning, will be laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard this afternoon after Zohr prayers.
His nephew, Julfiqar Rahman, confirmed it.
He said: "Mustafa Monwar will be taken to Bangladesh Television (BTV) at 9:00am on Tuesday. BTV was an institution very close to his heart, and he played an integral role in its formation. He will then be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar at around 11:00am, where people will have the opportunity to pay their last respects. From there, the procession will stop at the Faculty of Fine Arts. His janaza will be held after Zohr prayers at the Dhaka University Central Mosque. He will then be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard."
Known as Bangladesh's "Puppet Master", Mustafa Monwar was an iconic figure in the country's artistic and cultural landscape. Born on September 1, 1935, he made pioneering contributions to puppetry, painting, visual arts, television, and children's cultural programming. His creative work enriched the childhoods of several generations and left a lasting imprint on the country's cultural heritage.
In recognition of his immense contributions to arts and culture, Monwar was awarded the Ekushey Padak, one of the country's highest civilian honours, in 2004. He also received the Sultan Gold Medal from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in 2018.
