The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 will deliver its verdict today (Tuesday) in a case involving crimes against humanity against Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) president and former Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu, for crimes against humanity committed in Kushtia during the July 2024 mass uprising.
A three-member judicial panel, led by ICT-2 Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, is scheduled to pronounce the verdict at 1:30pm, along with ICT-2 members Judge Md. Manzurul Basid and Judge Noor Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
A total of eight specific charges have been brought against Inu, including the killing of six people, suppression, and incitement in his constituency in Kushtia during the July 2024 mass uprising.
During the July-August movement, people and students came under attacks at different places in Kushtia city on August 5, 2024 which led to the killing of six people and injuring many others.
The six people killed were workers Ashraful Islam, Suraj Ali Babu, students Abdullah Al Mustakin and Usama, trader Bablu Faraji, and employee Yusuf Sheikh. Besides, many innocent civilians were injured.
Then a case was filed against Hasanul Huq Inu with the ICT-2. According to the investigation agency report, prosecution brought eight charges against him which were submitted to the tribunal.
The prosecution argued that as a top leader of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance, Inu bears "superior command responsibility" for suppressing the movement.
The probe against Hasanul Haq Inu began on March 25, 2025, and the investigation agency submitted its final report to the prosecution on September 11, 2025.
The trial began on November 2, 2025, after charges were framed against Inu.
A total of 10 prosecution witnesses and 2 defense witnesses testified in the case.
After both sides concluded their arguments on May 14, the court kept the verdict pending (CAV). Later, on June 22, the tribunal fixed June 30 for the pronouncement of the verdict.
Currently, Hasanul Haq Inu is detained in Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur, and the prosecution sought the maximum punishment in the case.
With special permission from the court, the delivery of verdict will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television (BTV).
The same judicial panel is also scheduled to pass an order today on whether to initiate trial proceedings against 22 individuals, including former Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, regarding the killing of Wasim and five others in Chittagong.
