Price of everything will increase due to the Middle East war, said BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He said the government is working its best to deal with the price hike of essentials.
Mirza Fakhrul was speaking after inaugurating the re-excavation of the Neha River in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila at about 11:30am on Monday (March 23).
He said: "The Middle Eastern war will cause serious harm to our economy. The days ahead will not be better for us. Prices of all the goods will rise. The government is making efforts to deal with this challenge."
Admitting that some of the petrol pumps were vandalized, the BNP leader said: "We want to assert that we will not allow any mob and mobs will be dealt with an iron hand. Don't try to do anything else going beyond the jurisdiction of law."
Drawing attention to the remarks of some opposition leaders, Mirza Fakhrul said those leaders are giving tickets to go to heaven, but they have failed to give any heaven so far. "Inshallah, we will go to heaven through our deeds. Please remember one thing -- nothing can be done selling the religion."
He said the BNP always tries to fulfil its pledges made to people. "We will go to heaven through our works. But, none will be able to go to heaven using the religion."
Addressing the administration and party leaders, the BNP Secretary General said: "Do your duties honestly so that none can make any allegation that the canal excavation did not take place properly."
