BNP gives nomination to 36 candidates for reserved seats of women

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has finalised the list of candidates nominated for the reserved seats of women in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.

The party's senior joint secretary general and prime minister's adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the list of women candidates at the BNP central office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Monday (April 20).

Those who have received the final nominations are Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akter Banu, Newaz Halima Arli, Mosammat Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Shakila Farzana, Helen Jerin Khan, Nilofar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Zeba Amin Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Sabira Sultana, Sansila Jebrin, Sanzida Islam Tuli, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Huq, Anna Minj, Suborna Sikder, Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, Shammi Akter, Ferdous Ahmed. Bithika Binte Husain, Suraiya Zerin, Mansura Akter, Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, Mamtaz Alam, Fahima Nasreen, Arifa Sultana, Sanjida Yasmin, Nadia Pathan Papon, Shawkat Ara Akter, Madhobi Marma, Selina Sultana and Rezeka Sultana.

The BNP leaders responsible for finalising the nominations sat in Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday (April 19) night. The list of the candidates was finalised on the "basis of dedicated, eligible and competent" women leaders, said sources.

Earlier, the interviews of the nominated candidates from 10 organising divisions were taken at the BNP Chairman's political office at Gulshan in the capital.

It may be mentioned that according to the schedule announced by the Election Commission (EC), the last date for submission of nomination papers for the reserved seats of women is April 21. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on April 22 and 23. If there is any objection about the scrutiny, appeals can be made on April 26, while the appeals will be resolved on April 27 and 28. Election symbols will be allocated to the finalised candidates on April 30, while the voting will take place on May 12.

The EC said all preparations have been taken to hold the election in a free, fair and peaceful manner as per the schedule. 

While distributing the seats, BNP-led alliance got 26 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami alliance received 13 seats and Independents combinedly received one seat.
