Bangladesh made a steady progress, reaching 19 for no loss at lunch on day three of the first cricket Test against New Zealand at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.
Zakir Hasan was batting on 14 with Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who made 86 in the first innings on 5 with the side's lead growing to 12.
But the home side failed to earn a lead in the first innings as New Zealand ninth wicket pair Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson helped the visitor put up 317 before being all out.
New Zealand took seven runs lead as Bangladesh were bundled out for 310 in its first innings.
Resuming the day on 268-8, New Zealand captain Tim Southee and Kyle Jameison defied the Bangladeshi spinners astutely, much to the despair of the local fans.
Southee played the key role, scoring 35 off 62 with three fours while Jamieson added 23 off 70.
With the main bowlers of the team failing to make any breakthrough, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto sought the assistance of Mominul Haque's golden arm.
And it paid off with Mominul wrapping up New Zealand innings, dealing a double blow.
He trapped Jamieson leg-before to end 52-run ninth wicket partnership and four balls later got the better of Southee.
Zakir Hasan then struck two boundaries in the first over of Jamieson to give Bangladesh a fluent start in the second innings.
However New Zealand bowlers quickly fixed their line and length to make scoring tougher.
Both Zakir and Joy survived some tricky bowling to keep Bangladesh moving on at the first interval of the day.
Earlier on day two, Kane Williamson hit a graceful 104 to keep New Zealand in the contest amid Bangladesh's relentless spin attack.
