All kinds of train services on Chittogram-Cox's Bazar route have been suspended after railway tracks between Janalihat and Sholashahar stations were submerged in water.
Anisur Rahman, Director (Public Relations) of Bangladesh Railway, confirmed the matter early Wednesday (July 8).
He said, "The Tourist Express train, which left Dhaka for Cox's Bazar on Tuesday, cancelled its journey from Chittagong to Cox's Bazar and left for Dhaka again today."
On the other hand, the Cox's Bazar Express, which departed from Dhaka on Wednesday morning, remains waiting at the Chittagong station.
He said the train will not be allowed to leave for Cox's Bazar until the railway tracks are declared safe.
To ensure passenger convenience, alternative arrangements have been made," he said, adding, "Those who wish to cancel their trip can get a refund from the Chittagong station ticket counter. Passengers who want to return to Dhaka can depart from Chittagong for Dhaka at 4:00pm on the same Cox's Bazar Express.
The Bangladesh Railway authorities have expressed its regret for the situation caused by the natural disaster. Train operations will return to normal as soon as the water recedes from the railway tracks and safety is ensured.
