The High Court (HC) has directed the authorities concerned to implement the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1979, regarding the submission and disclosure of wealth statements of government employees.

A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ebadoth Hossain passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition filed and moved by Supreme Court lawyer Subir Nandi Das.

The court also issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to reply as to why it shall not pass an order to submit wealth statements by government employees and why digital records shall not be kept in this regard properly.

"Corruption and money laundering are obstacles to development and good governance. We cannot let corruption and anti-corruption movements run concurrently," the petitioner said, quoting the court's observation.

Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik stood for the state in the hearing, while advocate AKM Fazlul Hoque argued for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
