Lawyer Aminul Gani Titu posted a status on Facebook on August 5, 2024 ,the day Sheikh Hasina's government fell in the anti-discrimination movement: "I want Sheikh Hasina, the destroyer of the spirit of the liberation war, a murderer, and a liar, to be hanged." This lower court lawyer was recently appointed as the State Defense Counsel for Sheikh Hasina.
The next hearing of the case is scheduled for June 25 at the International Crimes Tribunal located in the Supreme Court grounds.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1, consisting of three judges led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, set the date. Gazi Monwar Hussain Tamim, one of the prosecutors of the tribunal and a High Court lawyer, confirmed this information.
Meanwhile, nearly 10 and a half months after the lawyer gave that status, many people are currently commenting on it. "I will not talk much about a matter that is under trial. I will just say, I will stand up for my client. The person is not the main issue here. The main issue is the client. I have been appointed as the State Defense Counsel for the state. I will see what maximum legal benefits my client can get," Aminul Gani Titu, the lawyer seeking Sheikh Hasina's death sentence, told the daily Khaborer Kagoj on Saturday after being appointed as the state defense counsel.
The tribunal on Thursday appointed an amicus curiae in addition to the state defense counsel in a contempt of court case against Sheikh Hasina. The appointed amicus curiae is senior Supreme Court lawyer AY Moshiuzzaman.
It is worth noting that the contempt of court charge against Sheikh Hasina and two others was brought to the tribunal, citing an audio clip circulating online that said, "I have received a license to kill 226 people.
