A man has allegedly hacked his wife and two children to death with a sharp weapon due to a family dispute at a Rohingya camp in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar.
Following the murders, the accused fled the scene.
The gruesome murders occurred around 1:30am on Thursday (July 9) at B-6 Block of Rohingya Camp No. 6 in Ukhia.
The deceased were identified as Shahida Noor, 33, wife of Ehteashamul Haque, and their two sons -- Mohammad Afsar, 9, and Mohammad Shamim, 5, all residents of the same block.
Local sources said that in sequel to a long-standing family feud, Ehteshamul Haq launched a sudden late-night attack on his wife and two children. He hacked them indiscriminately on various parts of their bodies, including their necks, with a sharp weapon, leaving them critically injured.
Due to excessive bleeding, Shahida Noor and her younger son, Shamim, died on the spot.
Local Rohingyas quickly rushed the critically injured Afsar to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Hospital, adjacent to the camp, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment.
Locals claim that this tragic murders occurred as a result of a long-standing family dispute. The accused, Ehteshamul Haq, has been absconding since the incident.
Amir Hossain, a leader (majhi) of No. 6 Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya, confirmed the murder of three individuals. He said a long-standing family feud had been ongoing between the husband and wife, leading to frequent quarrels. Locals also alleged that the accused man is a drug addict. He has been absconding since the incident of murders.
Upon receiving information, a team from the Ukhiya Police Station went to the scene, recovered the body with the assistance of the camp administration, and sent it to the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

An operation is underway to arrest the person accused in the killing, and an investigation into the incident has also begun.
