A court in Dhaka has denied bail to small screen's actor Md Niamat Ullah Bhuiyan (Zaher Alvi) in a case filed against him for instigating his wife to commit suicide.
After hearing on a bail petition on Monday, Dhaka's Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shahjahan Kabir rejected the bail petition of small-screen actor Zaher Alvi after a hearing.
Actor Zaher Alvi's defense lawyer Sheikh Robayet Islam filed for bail which was opposed by state prosecutor Harun Ur Rashid.
After the hearing, the court turned down the petition.
On February 28, 2026, the hanging body of Zaher Alvi's wife Afra Ibnat Ikra was recovered from their residence in Mirpur DOHS, Dhaka. She was immediately rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
On the same day, Ikra's father, Kabir Hayat Khan, filed a case at Pallabi Police Station, accusing Alvi of instigating the suicide.
The case statement alleges that long-standing domestic disputes, mental torture, and provocative posts on social media drove Ikra to commit suicide.

On June 18, 2026, Zaher Alvi surrendered to a lower court, which denied him bail and sent him to jail.June 24, 2026: The court granted a two-day remand for his interrogation.
Following the remand, the court sent him back to jail on June 30, 2026 after the investigating officer said that crucial information was obtained during questioning. The couple, married since 2010, has a son.
Ikra and Zaher Alvi got wedlocked in 2010. They have a son. Zaher Alvi's mother Nasrin Sultana Sheuli is also an accused in the same case but the court granted her bail after she surrendered to court and sought bail.
