A teenage girl became the victim of rape at Pallabi area in the capital.
Neighbor Anwar Hossain Sayeed (50) allegedly raped the girl on Friday night gagging her girl and dragged her into his room.
Before it, she was made unconscious with a pillow. Then, he raped her and dumped her into a nearby septic tank before fleeing.
Local residents rescued the unconscious girl early Saturday morning. She is currently undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Upon learning about the incident, local crowds detained and lynched the accused, Anwar, before handing him over to the Pallabi Police. Accused Anwar is a driver by profession. Being the plaintiff, the girl brother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000 with Pallabi Police Station on Saturday.
According to the case statement, the accused Anwar had been harassing and making inappropriate advances toward the girl for a long time. Anwar's family was not at home during the incident. He is suspected to be a drug addict and had reportedly beaten and driven his wife and children out of the house just a few days prior.
Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hasan Basir confirmed that the accused has been shown arrested, and he was produce before the court on Sunday.
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon, local residents demanding exemplary punishment for the perpetrator, blocked the roads in the Mirpur-10 area. They cleared the roads later following police assurances.
