Perform duties with the spirit of patriotism: IGP tells cadet sub-inspectors

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Thursday urged the cadet sub-inspectors (SIs) to perform their duties with the spirit of patriotism staying above all sorts of greed.

"We have to extend a helping hand to the innocent and vulnerable people," he said, reports UNB.

The IGP said these while addressing an event as the chief guest after inspecting the one-year basic training passing out parade of the “39th Cadet Sub-Inspector 2021 batch” at the Parade Ground of Bangladesh Police Academy at Sarda in Rajshahi.

Principal (Additional IGP) of Bangladesh Police Academy Mir Rezaul Alam presided over programme.

Young police officers should perform their duties with efficiency, professionalism and upholding human values, said the IGP.

The IGP said the overall development of any country depends on the law and order situation.

Today, Bangladesh is well known in the world as a stable, militancy-free dignified country, overcoming all obstacles, he said.

“The present government has been continuing efforts to make Bangladesh police a world-class organisation by increasing the manpower of the police, improving the quality of training through the use of modern and up-to-date technology,” he added.

The main responsibility of the police is to maintain law and order in the society alongside protecting the lives and property of the state and the people through the establishment of the rule of law, said Mamun.

“With the change of time, the range of police work has increased. At the same time, the strategies of committing crimes are changing. The police force is being made up-to-date and modern to meet new challenges,” he added.

President of Bangladesh Police Women Welfare Association (PUNAK) Dr Tayyaba Musarat Jahan Chowdhury, Additional IGPs, chiefs of different units of police, local public representatives and political leaders, parents of trainees and invited guests were, among others, present  at the programme.

The IGP distributed certificates among the trainees and participated in photo sessions with them.

PM reaches Washington DC from New York

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

Deal to ease trade in taka-rupee to be signed as Hasina

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
