Bristy's body to arrive in Dhaka May 9

The body of Bangladeshi doctoral student Nahida Sultana Bristy, killed in Florida of the United States, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on May 9.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washinton DC said on Tuesday (May 5) that her first namaz-e-janaza will be held in Tampa at 2:00pm (local time) on Wednesday (May 6). 

The repatriation is being overseen by the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami, with coordination by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC.

Bristy, a PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering, and fellow Bangladeshi doctoral student Jamil Ahmed Limon, who studied Geography, Environmental Science and Policy, were the students at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa Bay.

Limon's roommate, Hisham Saleh Abughurbeh, 26, a former USF student, was arrested in connection with their killings.

According to the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, Bristy's body will leave Orlando International Airport at 8:50pm (local time) on May 7 aboard Emirates Airlines flight EK0220. The flight will land on Dubai airport. Then Bristy's body will arrive by another flight from Dubai airport at 8:40am on May 9.

The embassy confirmed it on Tuesday. Earlier, Limon's body arrived in Dhaka on May 4.

Meanwhile, University of South Florida (USF) has decided to award posthumous doctorate degrees to Jamil Ahmed Limon and Nahida Sultana Bristy.

The degrees will be conferred during the university's Spring commencement ceremony on May 9.

Both Limon and Bristy went missing on April 16. After their families lost contact, they alerted local police. US authorities arrested Limon’s roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbeh, at his family home.

Following interrogation, Limon’s mutilated body was found on April 24 in garbage bags near the Howard Frankland Bridge area, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Abugharbeh has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
