The first namaz-e-janaza of Bangladeshi PhD student Nahida Sultana Bristy, who was brutally murdered in Florida state of the United States, was held at 2:00pm local time on Wednesday (May 6) at Islamic Society of Tampa in Florida

The first namaz-e-janaza of Bangladeshi PhD student Nahida Sultana Bristy, who was brutally murdered in Florida state of the United States, was held at 2:00pm local time on Wednesday (May 6) at Islamic Society of Tampa.

Apart from the members of the Bangladeshi community, many students and teachers from the University of South Florida, attended the janaza.

Golam Mortoza, press minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, shared the information on a Facebook post.

A representative from the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami was also present.

After the janaza, Bristy’s body was handed over to a funeral service company, which will send the body to Dhaka today (May 7) from Orlando International Airport on an Emirates flight.

A representative from the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami will be present at Orlando airport.

The body is scheduled to reach Dhaka at 8:40am on Saturday (May 9).

The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC, in coordination with the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami and in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is overseeing the entire process.

Bangladesh government is bearing all expenses for sending the bodies of Nahida Sultana Bristy and another slain Bangladeshi PhD student Jamil Limon, back to the country.

Jamil Limon's body already reached Dhaka on Monday (May 4). Following the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed was present at the airport and handed over the body to Limon's family.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
