All political parties have agreed to hold a referendum to ensure public participation and obtain their consent in implementing the July National Charter, but there are differences of opinion among the NCP, BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami on the timing of holding the referendum.

Professor Ali Riaz, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission (NCC), gave this information after chairing the dialogue between the NCC and political parties at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Sunday (October 5).

He said, "All political parties have agreed on the referendum to implement the July National Charter, but BNP and NCP are in favor of holding the referendum on separate ballots on the day of the national election, while Jamaat-e-Islami is in favor of holding the referendum before the election."

Professor Ali Riaz said the commission will make one or more recommendations to the government on the implementation of the charter by October 10, before which another meeting will be held with the political parties on October 8.
