Despite enforced disappearance, torture and murder, BNP leaders and workers didn't leave the street, the party Chairman Tarique Rahman has asserted.
He observed that all the cases filed against the BNP leaders and workers during the fascist rule were false, fabricated and politically motivated. "Those who became the victims of torture and repression during the previous fascist government's rule, I have no words to console them," he said.
The BNP Chairman made the remarks at an opinion-sharing meeting with the family members of the victims of enforced disappearances, murders, and extrajudicial killings at China-Bangladesh Friendship Convention Centre at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital early Saturday (January 17) afternoon.
The opinion-sharing meeting was attended by families and relatives of the victims of enforced disappearances, murders, and extrajudicial killings who came from across the country.
"Aamra BNP Paribar" and "Mayer Daak" jointly organised the opinion-sharing meeting.
Those who attended the meeting demanded proper investigation and fair trial of the incidents.
Tarique Rahman gave a patience hearing to the statements of families of the victims of enforced disappearances, murders, and extrajudicial killings.
The BNP Chairman said, "I had to stay away from my country, relatives, and people for many years. Beyond my party leaders and activists, there are these bereaved families across the country. We have tried to stand beside the families who lost their loved ones. Whether we succeeded fully or not is another matter. But there was no lack of sincerity on our part. There may have been limitations, but our efforts continued and will continue in the future."
Referring to numerous false cases filed during the previous fascist regime, he said the BNP leaders and activists were implicated in more than 1,50,000 false cases, and the burden of those cases had to be borne by 60 lakh party members. Hundreds of thousands of activists were forced to flee their homes for years and live an inhuman life. The cases filed against them were false, fabricated and politically motivated."
Expressing his sympathy, he also asserted that the BNP would always stand beside with families of the victims of enforced disappearance, torture and murder in the days ahead.
