Apple made it clear for the first time on September 30 that it is well aware of the reports that some iPhone 15 devices would get extremely hot when in use, or even when just being charged.
The company has said that the increased background activity during the first few days of setting up or restoring the device can cause it to feel warmer. Additionally, a bug in iOS 17 has been identified, which will be addressed in a software update.
Apple said that a software bug as well as other issues associated with popular apps such as Instagram and Uber caused the recently released iPhone 15 series to overheat.
“We have identified a few conditions which can cause the iPhone to run warmer than expected. The device may feel warmer during the first few days after setting up or restoring the device because of increased background activity. We have also found a bug in iOS 17 that is impacting some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves some recent updates to third-party apps that are causing them to overload the system. We’re working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of rolling out,” Apple assured users in a statement.
For users who have already purchased the iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max and are experiencing overheating issues, there are some potential solutions. Enabling low power mode can help reduce temperature, although it temporarily disables certain features like the ProMotion screen. Disabling background activity for specific apps, such as Uber and Instagram, can also alleviate the issue.
