The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has formed a three-member team to investigate the allegations of foreign currency smuggling worth Tk 80,000 crore against consumer goods importer Meghna Group of Industries.
The ACC head office issued a letter to start the investigation process on April 8.
According to the letter, based on the approval of the commission, a three-member investigation team has been formed with Deputy Director Ahsanul Kabir Palash as the team leader. Other members are Assistant Director Abdul Malek and Deputy Assistant Director Nizam Uddin.
In the light of the Commission's decision, the complaint is investigated as per the rules and the report is asked to be submitted within the stipulated time with specific opinion (by flagging the record in favor of the opinion/recommendation).
Deputy Director (Research and Investigation-1) Mohammad Moazzem Hossain confirmed the formation of the investigation team.

It should be noted that Meghna Group has become one of the most talked about issues in the country due to allegations of money laundering abroad. Experts believe that the outcome of the ACC investigation is very important to ensure transparency in the country's economic sector. Moreover, the bank accounts of Mostafa Kamal, Chairman and Managing Director of Meghna Group of Industries, his wife Beauty Akter and their children have already been seized.
Bangladesh Bank's financial intelligence unit Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) sent a letter to the country's banks and financial institutions with necessary instructions in this regard on April 10.
The letter said that the personal accounts of Mostafa Kamal, his wife Beauty Akter and their children should be suspended for the next 30 days. At the same time all the information including transaction statement, account opening form, KYC of these persons and their children should be sent to BFIU. It is known that the amount of loan taken from 31 banks and three financial institutions in 55 institutions of Meghna Group is Tk 16 thousand 768 crore.
