BNP calls hartal after killing, beating police, asron attacks: Home Minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said that BNP called hartal after killing and beating police and arson attacks during their programme here yesterday.

“Around one hundred policemen were injured and a police constable was killed during BNP’s atrocities yesterday. They also beat up Awami League women workers and called hartal,” he told the journalists at his ministry office today, reports BSS.

The minister said, “I visited the Central Police Hospital and saw how the BNP cadres brutally killed a policeman and hit other police personnel and journalists.”

He said the BNP activists entered into the Chief Justice’s residence after breaking the main gate and vandalized properties. They threw brickbats and stones on the Awami League women leaders and workers in front of the Kakrail Mosque. 

Kamal said separate cases will be filed regarding their attacks on the Chief Justice's residence and killing of policeman and beating up Awami League women workers. 

“Action will be taken against those who will be identified through video footage of the killing police and beating innocent people as well Awami League leaders and workers,” the minister stated. 

He said that the BNP set fire on more than 10 buses, adding, “They even set fire on fire service vehicles. The police and the common people were the targets of their unruly attacks.” 

Replying to a question from the journalist, the Home Minister said that the BNP has showed their original character yesterday by killing and beating policemen, journalists and innocent people and they must be punished for their misdeeds soon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Washington DC, the USA capital city, this afternoon after joining the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session and other high-level side and bilateral events in New York.

 

She reached Washington DC from New York by road at 6pm.

On her arrival in Washington DC, Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Muhammad Imran received the premier with a flower bouquet, reports BSS.

Earlier, she left her Place of Residence, Lotte New York for Washington DC at 12:30pm.

She arrived in New York on September 17.

The prime minister will leave Washington DC for London, the capital city of the United Kingdom, on September 29.

She will stay in London till October 3.

After wrapping up her visit, the prime minister will leave London for home and scheduled to reach Dhaka on October 4.

"An MoU will be signed between the National Payments Corporation of India and the Bangladesh Bank to make transactions in rupees and taka between Bangladesh and India easier," said the foreign minister in a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Besides, the neighbouring countries are likely to sign two more memorandums of understanding regarding cooperation in agricultural researches, and extension of the existing cultural exchange programme for two years, said the foreign minister.
