The European Union (EU) has sought time to meet again with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal to send observers to the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections.
According to EC sources, European Union ambassador to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley sent a letter to the CEC on Wednesday, asking for time on behalf of the organization for this meeting on 27 November.
In the letter, Whiteley wrote, 'You are preparing for the 12th National Parliament election. We have already shared information with you regarding the election. I appreciate you for the ongoing work of the Election Commission. Earlier we had an exchange of views on the preparations for the parliamentary elections. We would like to attend another joint meeting in your office to know more details about the current action plan of the Election Commission. Will you be available for the meeting on November 27th at 3pm? I look forward to your consent to exchange views'.
Officials at the Election Commission said that Charles Whiteley's letter has been stored as a document at the commission. However, no schedule has yet been finalised, neither by the commission nor the CEC.
They added that every time the EU sought time from the EC, they gave it. Maybe, this time too they will be given time sometime later.
