Demanding a referendum before the national elections, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar said that if there is no referendum before the national elections, then there will be no legal basis for the national elections.

"A legal basis for voting must be created through a referendum before the national election," he said while addressing as the chief guest at a public meeting organized by Jamaat-e-Islami in Daulatpur, Khulna city, on Friday (November 14).

The Jamaat leader said a referendum must be held before the national election, and the July Charter will be the basis for the national election.

Golam Parwar said that, due to some invisible conspiracy, a major political party is trying to crush the nation's blood-soaked aspirations through secret meetings by influencing two or three advisors.

He further said, the people have been thrown into a crisis by holding the referendum and national elections on the same day.

Addressing the Chief Advisor, he said, "Amend the declaration and hold the referendum before the national elections; otherwise, a new crisis will emerge."
