An expatriate Bangladeshi worker was killed on Wednesday (April 1) morning after debris from an intercepted drone accidentally fell on a farm at Al-Rifa'a area in Fujairah of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), report the UAE media.
"A 'successful interception' of a drone by UAE air defence forces resulted in debris falling on a farm in Fujairah which resulted in the death of a Bangladeshi expatriate," reports the Gulf News quoting the Fujairah Government Media Office, as saying. Fujairah is close to the Strait of Hormuz in Iran.
However, there are doubts over the authenticity of the claim.
This brings the total death toll to 12 in the UAE since the beginning of the US-Israel-Iran war. Most of the fatalities have been caused by falling debris after interceptions. Among the deceased were two members of the armed forces who died while performing their duty, as well as a Moroccan civilian contracted by the armed forces, Khaleej Times reports.
The other nine who died were of Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi, Palestinian and Indian nationalities.
On Tuesday, UAE authorities said that the total number of individuals injured since the start of the war is 188. Air defence forces dealt with 12 missiles and 36 UAVs on that day.
