Justice Rezaul Hasan of High Court resigns

Justice Md Rezaul Hasan, a senior judge of the High Court Division of the Supre Court, has resigned from office, amid serious allegations of corruption, misconduct and abuse of power.

He sent his resignation letter to the President on Monday (March 30) through the Supreme Court administration, sources said.

The Supreme Court registrar general's office forwarded the letter to the President the same day through the Ministry of Law," a Supreme Court source said on Tuesday.

According to the source, a written complaint was submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council against the judge earlier. Being the complainant, Shah Group Chairman AKM Mujibul Huque submitted the complaint against him making allegations of corruption and misuse of judicial power. Requesting to investigate the allegations in his prayer, he called upon the Supreme Judicial Council to take necessary steps against Justice Rezaul Karim if allegations against him were proved.

According to the complaint, Justice Rezaul Hasan allegedly showed bias in the proceedings of two company cases filed in 2010 and 2011.

In one case, the name of a senior lawyer was reportedly included in the verdict as having presented arguments, despite not being present—an order that was later quashed by the Appellate Division.

In another case, the petitioner's wife was not made a party, and her 13 lakh shares were cancelled — an action the petitioner claims was contrary to the principles of justice.
